Welcome to Work Migrant Programme Helps Igor to Find Work
27 year old Igor moved to Ireland from Russia with his parents nearly 3 years ago. He worked previously as a tailor but despite his work experience he struggled to find work as his conversational english was poor.
Igor and his parents had been learning to speak English and it was at a conversational English programme, that Igor and his family met an adviser for the Welcome to Work programme.
The programme aims to increase employment opportunities for people who have legally moved to Ireland and finding it difficult to get into employment. Welcome to Work provides opportunities for participants to improve their English language skills, gain computer skills, boost their confidence and build their employability skills.
Igor joined the programme at his Network Personnel centre in Monaghan. He said “ I have learnt about the culture of Ireland, been given help and advice on jobs and updated my CV. I can also converse in English and have been glad to meet new people”.
Part of the Welcome to Work programme is learning about Irish society and with his group, Igor visited a traditional pottery, “I really enjoyed the trip to the Pottery in Monaghan. It helped me to understand the Irish customs and to meet other people”

Igor is currently working part time and is happy to be in work, he said “I feel the programme was very worthwhile and very helpful”.
The Welcome to Work programme, is delivered by leading training provider Seetec in partnership with Network Personnel, and jointly funded by the Irish Government and the European Social Fund (ESF) as part of the Programme for Employability, Inclusion and Learning (PEIL) 2014 -2020.
